Description

Pyro-metallurgical metals refining, starting from poly-metallic ores is an energy-intensive and slow process. Usually, the production in Kazakhstan results in lead as the main product, also extracting other valuable metals as side products – including gold, silver, zinc. Considering the large flow rates of the processed materials, and the high monetary values of the side products, it is important to develop a method for evaluating and then minimising the losses of the product materials, as well as to minimise the use of energy for running the process.
After analysing the article Inge Bellemans "Metal losses in pyrometallurgical operations" in the journal Advances in Colloid and Interface Science , as well as an article on the site metal-archive.ru "metal Loss due to evaporation during smelting" , the loss of valuable metal in electrothermal melting is considered harmful to the economic and environmental performance. Which makes necessary further detailed analysis.
The aim of the work is to analyse the flowsheet of the pyro-metallurgical processing of lead-containing poly-metallic ores, in order to identify the main patterns and factors that can have a significant impact on the optimisation of the existing technology. This is expected to allow increasing the resource efficiency by integrated use of the raw materials. The high environmental and financial value of the process outputs makes it necessary to analyse the potential measures for waste and energy demand reduction in a hierarchy, identifying the potential savings for each of the possible measures, and then ordering them by the value of the marginal benefit from applying the measures.
It is expected to identify the main sources of losses of valuable product materials and energy waste and the process operations, in which the potential for savings is of the order of 20 %.
