Description
In classic microbial fuel cells, a wide range of different substances is utilized: organic acids, sugars, alcohols, fats and other substrates. In them the energy of chemical bonds is converted into electrical energy. In recent years, a number of developments on the use of algae in such devices. Microalgae can convert the energy of sunlight into electricity. This article describes the materials on the use of various types of microalgae for the operation of microbial fuel cells. The data on the composition of microbiocenoses associated with the anode, the voltage and current strength produced by these microalgae are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the use of well-combined with each other joint associations of microalgae and bacteria for microbial fuel cells. It is important for understanding the processes of formation of highly productive consortiums of various microorganisms with energy-efficient microalgae strains in microbial fuel cells. The role of microalgae in the implementation of electron transport in the production of oxygen in the cathode chamber of microbial fuel cells is discussed.
